    EARTH IS MY PASSION is an invitation to examine and develop our choices to save earth, what more we can do, educate and influence others and together organize community action and projects

    EARTH IS MY PASSION is based on the assumption that we are all responsible to save earth and that we can BE THE CHANGE

    Values under consideration include:
    (a) Increase Health, Nutrition and Awareness,
    (b) Reduce material consumption,
    (3) Conserve energy and national resources,
    (5) Reconnect to self, others and earth,
    (6) Support a green and just society,
    (7) Green our communities

    The concept of EARTH IS MY PASSION has been developed by May Haddad and is presented here as a joint activity by Al-JANA, the JANANA network and the social media group Sob7ye Sa7aweye (the partnership is also open to other groups)

    Friends from funders are approached to cover the direct cost of the activities during the JANANA summer encounter at Brumana Aug. 24-30 2012. Funders are partners in the process and will be credited based on their preference

    What: Celebrative and educational events are being prepared for and will be integrated into the upcoming JANANA Summer Encounter, Aug. 2012. The program includes Action Circles, Interactive Stands, Performances, Rap Songs, Exhibition, Games, Slogans, Banners, Recycled Arts, Installations, Parade etc

    People: Participants are expected to exceed 150 people most of whom are animators, activists, trainers and community workers. Included are participants and animators of JANANA Summer Encounter, members of Morning Health Forum social media group, visitors from environmental and other groups and friends. Most of the participants live in Lebanon, are affiliated to dozens of groups and NGOs and live/work within Palestinian and marginalized Lebanese communities. Some participants are from Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Jordan and other

    Preparing ourselves: The program is being prepared for through a participatory mechanism using social media (http://www.facebook.com/events/233852666728898/) , e-mail communication, face to face interactions and the organization of a consultative session on June 16 (integrated into the JANANA encounter preparatory expanded meeting). All individuals and groups are encouraged to share their related summer experiences and develop recycled arts that is to be displayed during

    the event
    Environmental groups are invited to take part in the event as well as artists, CBOs and NGOs who are concerned about Earth. As such the event is a platform for different individuals and groups to be together get to know about each other and enhance their working relations and networks. To date Nahnoo, “We Dream of Greener Beirut”, “Center for Continuing Education” and “Cross_arts” expressed interest

    The process for the events during the JANANA encounter are being coordinated by May Haddad MD.MPH and Christine Thomassian (Project Officer at Al-JANA). May has extensive experience in community education and mobilization in Lebanon and the region. May is also concerned about documenting the experience with its potential of replication and expansion
    Al-Jana is hosting the event as part of its JANANA Summer Encounter organized at Brumana High School August 24-31. Plans for continuity are being discussed with Al-JANA. Al-Jana will be coordinating the financial aspect of the event
    All other groups and funder are also invited to develop plans for continuity and as such the events during the JANANA summer encounter are opening doors for community projects and sustained actions

    Tentative Actions during JANANA Encounter Aug 24-31:

    Eliminate the use of plastics cups: All participants are encouraged to bring with them their own mug (BYOM: Bring Your Own Mug) and water bottle. School administrator is asked to replace the plastic cups used at meals with regular cups. Al-Jana administration will be backing the actions
    Mobilize volunteers: Dozens of participants will be recruited to help organize the events. An activity is integrated during the Mela on day one (Aug. 24)

    Engagement of animators: Included are animators who are already engaged in the encounter {Philip, Rabab, Nemeh, Naji, Maher ?????etc.} and other animators { Badrieh, Kamal, May, Amy??? etc.}

    Develop the list of choices “ EARTH IS MY PASSION”: The tentative list that was developed on June 16 with input of 35 activists/social workers/ volunteers from NGOs members of the JANANA network will be reviewed and developed further

    EARTH IS MY PASSIONintegrated into the JANANA encounter workshops: To integrate into the different workshops of the JANANA encounter pending on the interests of the animators in charge of these workshop

    Action circles: 3:30-6:00 pm August 27 : Participants will participate in action circles that aim at, upgrading the list of choices, organizing the Celebrative Educational Event on Aug. 30 (Create rap songs, create short performance, images and slogans, recycled arts and installations, costumes etc). Animators from the JANANA encounter and other will be facilitating the Action circles

    Celebrative Educational Event Aug. 30: Program to include results of the Action Circles, An Exhibition of Recycled Arts, Interactive Stands (how to start ur own garden, games, make ur necklace from recycled paper etc.), Stands by NGOs and groups concerned about Earth, Performances, Rap songs, competitions etc.

    EARTH IS MY PASSION Exhibition: Aug. 30 (or earlier) with the possibility of running an auction on the recycled arts objects

    Parade: Fun parade in Brumana: Several of the products of the experience will be displayed and/or used in the finale parade organized by Al-JANA on the last day of the encounter
